ColdOne Regulator Replacement

How to Replace Your Regulator on the ColdOne Jockey Box

Replacing a regulator on your ColdOne jockey box might seem intimidating, but it's a straightforward process if you have the right tools and know-how. Whether your regulator is malfunctioning or you simply need an upgrade, we’ve got you covered. In this step-by-step guide, Boyd from Coldbreak walks you through the process of replacing your regulator with ease.

What Comes in the Kit?

Before diving in, let’s quickly review what you’ll find in your ColdOne regulator replacement kit:

  • Replacement Regulator: The main component, thoroughly tested at our shop.
  • Two Allen Wrenches (Hex Wrenches): Used to remove and secure screws.
  • Screws: Your regulator may come with either button head screws or the thicker socket head cap screws, which are included for easier handling and reduced risk of stripping.
  • Two Hose Clamps: Includes a worm-style clamp and a semi-permanent step clamp (preferred for better security).
  • Tubing Cutters: Handy for precise cuts, allowing you to maintain the right hose length.

Step-by-Step Replacement Guide

(00:00) Start by identifying your current regulator setup. If you have button head screws, use the included 3/32” Allen wrench to remove them. If you have socket head cap screws, switch to the larger Allen wrench.

(01:11) To begin, remove the hose clamp securing the tubing to the regulator. Use pliers to spin the clamp into a reachable position, then squeeze the ear of the clamp gently to create a grip. Carefully remove the clamp and set it aside.

(01:49) Next, detach the blue tubing from the regulator. Use the tubing cutters to snip the tubing close to the end to avoid shortening the hose unnecessarily.

(02:31) Unscrew the old regulator using the appropriate Allen wrench. These screws may be tight due to the thread locker applied in our shop, ensuring the screws don’t loosen during shipping. Be patient and avoid stripping the hex head by applying steady pressure.

(03:10) Replace the button head screws with the included socket head cap screws. These have thicker heads and a larger receiver, making them easier to handle. Line up the new regulator with the four holes and start securing the screws by hand.

(04:24) Once the screws are in place, tighten them snugly, but avoid over-tightening to prevent damage to the threads or the castings.

(05:10) Now, slide the step clamp onto the tubing, leaving about 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch exposed. Reattach the tubing to the regulator and use the step clamp crimpers to secure the clamp over the barb, ensuring it’s past the first step after the taper. Squeeze the ears of the clamp to finish the crimp.

(05:53) And just like that, your new regulator is installed and ready for action. If you have any questions or run into issues, don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

Replacing your regulator might seem daunting, but with the right tools and this guide, it’s a manageable task that keeps your ColdOne system running smoothly.
